A graduate of Class 83-05 with the 4007th CCTS at Plattsburgh AFB where he received initial and instructor pilot training, Captain Dave "Lone Star" Lefforge flew the FB-111A with the 509th Bomb Wing at Pease AFB, NH. from 1983 to 1986. After completing several years as a T-38 instructor pilot at Williams AFB, Captain Lefforge was eventually assigned to the 715th Bomb Squadron. During three years at Pease he was an instructor pilot, supervisor of flying (SOF) and 509th Bomb Wing Stan/Eval attached to the 393rd Bomb Squadron. In February 1986, Dave Lefforge flew a life-saving human heart from Oklahoma to Connecticut for a heart transplant. Read more in 'Heart gift on Valentine's day'.
The photos in this album were taken during missions with the 509th BW from Pease AFB, NH. Originally from 35mm slides, they did not have the fidelity that digital cameras and phones provide today. He took his camera on many T-38s and FB-111A flights when there were no Air Force restrictions from doing so. That changed in the early 1990s when two jets collided while taking personal photos.
